Description

Gutchess Lumber Co Inc. is seeking a Security Guard for our Cortland, NY plant. The primary focus of this position is to serve as the first impression to our customers in handling both inbound and outbound scales transactions. Others duties include editing all scales information prior to being released, and to insure proper handling of both inbound as well as outbound truck activity, including the training of backup support.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a backup to answering incoming calls and route them promptly to appropriate individuals.
  • Completes all scales transactions, recording and inputting information on appropriate documents / systems - Kwik Tags, WeighWiz5g, Millteck (isis)
  • Reviews all outbound documents ensuring their completeness before providing to driver and releasing shipment.
  • Dispatches all inbound loads to appropriate site locations for proper handling.
  • Physically inspects all out-bound lumber shipments ensuring proper tarping standards are upheld.
  • Proactively monitors and controls all site access gates.
  • Collecting fees for outside sawdust, firewood and lift stick purchases and providing funds to Accounting.
  • Completes a variety of Company reports: Daily summary of scales activity & Truck mileage tax reports monthly
  • Conducts tours of Cortland plant and grounds by golf cart and/or walking to ensure security and watches for conditions that could result in injury or loss due to fire, water leakage, spills or acts of vandalism
  • Establish and maintain daily communication log book for tracking information needed to be discussed with support staff at scales.
  • Verify all Sales orders for accuracy in comparison to the actual shipment.
  • Follow-up on all shipments and documentation for consistency.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • 3-5 years in experience in shipping (inbound or outbound) preferred.
  • Experience in – Word, Excel, Outlook,
  • Previous office experience required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
40 Hours per week during the “core” work hours. Weekend & evening work may be required as job duties demand.

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 70%
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, and printer
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to conduct business 15%
