Description

Gutchess Lumber is seeking a Truck Driver, Tractor Trailer or Straight Truck, Log Loader operator (with training) to haul logs and trucking product. Reporting to Truck Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates Company heavy trucks: tractor trailers, tri axles, pup trailers and straight trucks;

  • Familiar with and obey rules of the road: speed limits, vehicle GVW, road weight limits, bridge restrictions and heights;

  • Physically capable to perform the tasks of truck driver: entering and exiting the truck, climbing loader ladders, strapping loads, tightening straps, chaining tires, exposure to the elements (cold, hot, wind, rain, snow, dust).

  • Willing to learn safe log loading procedures, safe off road driving, log loader operation, walking floor trailer operation, curtain trailer operation, dump truck/trailer operation, flatbed trailer operation, log truck/trailer operation, tree species id

  • Able to work with and follow direction of wood yard crew and scales to facilitate unloading of logs and accurate recording of loads for payment.

  • Haul any product as needed, bark, chips, lumber, logs, etc.

  • Complete neatly and accurate daily time reports, log books, NYS Ag and Market EAB books and other required reporting

  • Maintain truck (and trailer) clean and presentable for weekly Maintenance work and perform basic maintenance and repair work.

  • Will help with misc. projects (with proper training) not related to truck operation. i.e., painting property lines, building bridges, running chainsaw, building and installing gates, washing trucks and trailers for inspection, and other duties assigned by a supervisor.

     

Safety:

  • Hard Required personal protective equipment to be worn at all times;

  • Hard hat, steel toe leather boots, hearing protection, and safety glasses required in all positions

  • Additional protective equipment to be used as required for specific machine centers;

  • Must follow all safety policies and procedures;

  • Reports all safety exceptions or incidents immediately, according to policy;

 

Qualifications:

  • GED/HS Degree;

  • Valid NYS Class driver’s license, Class “A” preferred,

  • Ability to successfully pass NYS DOT Physical and drug screen;

  • Willing to work long hours and weekends within DOT limits and very good attendance record;

  • 5 years’ experience preferred; (Off road experience will be a plus)

  • Effective written and verbal communication;

  • Able to lift 65+ lbs;
