Description

Works without close supervision. Advanced rolling stock mechanical maintenance and repair, welding and cutting with both arc and gas, and ability in metal machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits. Basic ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics. Rolling stock includes all vehicles, trucks, trailers, loaders, etc.

 

Essential Duties Include:

  • Performs all essential duties

  • Has thorough knowledge of all maintenance tools available and their proper use

  • Has knowledge and understanding of electrical systems both starting and charging 12 volt and 24 volt and be able to troubleshoot and repair these systems

  • Performs advanced repair work such as removing and making minor repairs on axles, engines, trans, and all major components on all rolling stock with little supervision

  • Basic ability in hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and their proper operation, including valves and cylinders

  • Advanced ability in brake systems, and be able to troubleshoot and repair

  • Has ability of reading and understanding blueprints and schematics of rolling stock equipment

  • Performs minor tune ups on gasoline and/or LPG engines

  • Knowledge of fuel systems; diesel, gas, and LPG

  • Performs basic welding and cutting with both arc and gas

  • Does repair work such as cylinder, pins, bushings, etc. on all rolling stock

  • Does re-braking and keeps trailers road worthy

  • Services rolling stock by greasing, changing oil, filters, etc.

  • Changes and repairs tires

  • Steam cleans equipment

  • Does clean up as needed

  • Has ability in making up hydraulic hoses

  • Other duties may be assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
