REPORTS TO: WOODYARD SUPERVISOR

POSITION: HOURLY NON-EXEMPT

Position Description

Responsible for accurately scaling, grading, identifying, and tagging incoming logs; tracking log inventory and movements throughout the woodyard; and supporting daily woodyard operations in accordance with Gutchess quality and safety standards.

Position Overview

Work closely with loader and picker operators to support the safe and accurate flow of logs through the woodyard. Maintain accurate log records, follow incoming-load procedures, and assist with woodyard upkeep, including the log watering system.

Responsibilities

• Accurately scale and grade all logs received into the yard in accordance with Gutchess quality standards.
• Identify log species and tag logs accurately.
• Follow correct procedures for incoming log loads.
• Track incoming log inventory and log movements through the woodyard.
• Operate handheld data collection devices accurately.
• Coordinate and communicate with loader and picker operators.
• Maintain the woodyard, including the log watering system.
• Assist with other woodyard duties and cross-training as assigned.

Safety

• Understand and follow Gutchess safety protocols.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility PPE, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hard hat, and hearing protection.
• Understand and comply with spill procedures.
• Understand and comply with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements.

Skills Required

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
• Attention to accuracy when identifying, scaling, grading, tagging, and recording logs.

Education and Experience

• Previous log scaling experience preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be willing to cross-train in multiple positions.
