The scope of this job includes the scaling and grading of Timber and Gatewood logs, assistance in marketing and the sale of logs not bound for Gutchess Lumber Co., (GLC) facilities, storage of logs, loading and unloading of trucks, data collection and data transfer, environmental and regulatory compliance, job safety, control and maintenance of GLC wood concentration areas, equipment and property. Of course, GLC reserves the right to change your job duties and to assign to you other job duties, from time to time, commensurate with your education, training, and experience. This individual must be able to work within a team environment, as well as independently, and be able to prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate Scale and Grade of all logs received into the GLC yard.
    • Gutchess Professionalism:
      • Treat all vendors with respect
      • Courteous
      • Prompt service
      • Confidential treatment of all data
  • Rolling stock
    • Understand GLC Safety protocols and the safe use thereof.
    • Safe operation of all equipment including wheel loader, hydraulic cranes and chainsaw.
    • Understand GLC safety protocols and the safe use thereof.
    • Understand regular maintenance.
  • Environmental
    • Understand and comply with all SWPPP plans.
    • Understand and comply with GLC spill procedures
  • Monitor Log yard receipts for quality on a daily basis.
  • Report to Wood Procurement Manager quality challenges
  • Daily tracking of receipts into Log yard
    • Match Scale loads to Bill of Lading
    • Ensure all Data is transferred to Cortland timely and accurately.
    • Vendor and harvester information by load and log
      • Number logs
      • Grades
      • Species
  • Weekly Tracking for Log Sales
  • Ensure all data is collected and transferred to Cortland timely & accurately.
  • Make sure all logs from a sale are accurately picked up and stored for trucking.
  • Make sure that tags clipped off for a sale have tags reattached to the log.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience in computer operations - Word, Excel, Outlook,
  • Previous office experience is helpful.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
40 Hours per week during the “core” work hours. Weekend & evening work may be required as job duties demand.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a standing position 75%
  • Must be able to remain in a sitting position 75%
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to conduct business 25%
