We are looking for a Sales Engineer, China/Southeast Asia

Job Description: Responsible for the sale of complex hardwood lumber products to businesses in Southeast Asia, which accounts for a large portion of Gutchess’ sales and providing ongoing technical support. Success will include understanding the customers’ needs and marketing the product designed to achieve their goals. The sales territory includes China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan.

Job Responsibilities: Evaluate the best lumber product solution for customers utilizing extensive technical expertise in the areas of industrial lumber, including identifying wood species and micro-structures, analyzing the physical properties and capabilities of each species and analyzing the impact of different wood drying techniques on the final product. Maintain current sales accounts and sales volumes in China, with specific territories in Shanghai and Qingdao, and in Malaysia and Thailand. Expand market share in developing areas in China, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia and Singapore and research and identify potential new customers. Travel to territory is required and estimated to be 25%

Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Wood Science or closely related Technical Forestry field of study; Speak, read and write in English and Mandarin fluently; Previous technical sales experience (B2C & B2B) with Chinese, Eastern Europe and US Markets (minimum 1 year); Demonstrated knowledge with hardwood drying (kiln) process and procedures; Coursework or other experience with project management, lumber marketing and construction management a plus; Coursework in wood drying techniques, wood making science, and the design of woodworking machinery; Requires a minimum of 5 months’ experience with kiln drying techniques and analyzing wood drying defects
