MAINTENANCE MILLWRIGHT– JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: MAINTENANCE MANAGER
POSITION: HOURLY NON-EXEMPT
Description:
A Millwright installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and other industrial environments. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision, and the ability to read complex technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, align, and dismantle a wide variety of industrial machinery and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical drawings.
- Use precision tools (dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment tools) to ensure accurate machine alignment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and replace defective parts such as bearings, gears, shafts, and motors.
- Operate hoists, cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Fabricate and install machine components using welding, cutting, and basic machining techniques.
- Perform equipment testing and calibration to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and industry regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers, maintenance teams, and production staff to minimize downtime.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Millwright or Industrial Mechanic.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Skilled with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and stand for long periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade certification preferred (e.g., Red Seal, Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial environments such as manufacturing, mining, energy, or food processing.
- Welding or machining experience.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of electrical systems or PLCs (a plus).
Work Environment
- Industrial or manufacturing setting.
- May require shift work, overtime, and on-call availability.
- Work involves exposure to noise, heavy machinery, and industrial equipment.
