Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a variety of heavy machinery to transport materials safely and efficiently on Company property. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining safety, equipment functionality, and the quality of logs received into the yard. Additionally, you may be required to train in and assist with other areas as needed, providing flexibility to support different functions within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate heavy equipment to transport materials across the company's property.
  • Securely position materials prior to transport, ensuring safety and stability.
  • Maintain clear visibility during transport to avoid potential hazards.
  • Unload materials carefully, controlling the proper placement during unloading.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and daily inspections of equipment to identify potential issues, including fluid leaks and mechanical concerns.
  • Actively contribute to equipment maintenance and repair efforts as part of the team.
  • Monitor the surrounding area to ensure personnel and property safety at all times.
  • Ensure equipment is properly secured before leaving the machine.
  • Maintain a productive work pace to achieve daily goals and objectives.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and logging of all materials received, including grading logs and monitoring receipt quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of vendor, harvester, and material data.
  • Be flexible and willing to train and assist in other areas of the operation as required. You may not always be operating heavy equipment, but will be expected to support team efforts in various capacities.

Safety and Housekeeping:

  • Uphold company safety protocols, including environmental regulations and spill procedures.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of your work area and machine, including the cab.
  • Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including work gloves.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to lift boards/equipment ranging from 25–100 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and perform repetitive tasks involving twisting, turning, and bending.
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail and a proactive safety mindset.
  • Willingness to undergo training and shadow experienced operators to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to assist and train in different areas of the operation, demonstrating flexibility in tasks and roles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No specific licenses required.
  • On-the-job training is provided.

  • Maintains confidentiality with all company data.

Environmental and Safety Compliance:

  • Understands and complies with all company safety protocols, environmental regulations, and spill management procedures.
  • Actively monitors log yard receipts to ensure quality standards are met and reports issues to the Wood Procurement Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, twist, turn, and bend regularly.
  • Capable of working in varying weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Pay: $17.00 - $26.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 8-hour shift (Day shift)
