MECHANIC I – JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: AREA SUPERVISOR

POSITION: HOURLY NON-EXEMPT

Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Mechanic to oversee and coordinate the maintenance and repair operations of our garage. The Lead Mechanic will be responsible for supervising a team of mechanics, ensuring the efficient functioning of machinery and vehicles, and contributing to the overall success of our operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Mentor: Supervise and guide a team of mechanics, providing ongoing training, support, and leadership.
  • Diagnostic Expertise: Perform thorough diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a variety of equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
  • Task Coordination: Effectively prioritize and coordinate maintenance tasks to ensure timely completion and optimal use of resources.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Problem Solving: Conduct detailed inspections to identify malfunctions and troubleshoot issues, ensuring root causes are addressed.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the management of spare parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient usage.
  • Vendor Relations: Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for the procurement of parts and servicing of equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and maintain a safe, compliant working environment for all team members.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain precise records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory to support efficient operations.

Safety:

  • Requires personal protective equipment be worn safety glasses, hearing protection head protection, steel toed work boots and other protective equipment as required.

Skills Required:

  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience as a mechanic in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Effective Leadership: Excellent leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety protocols and regulations.
  • Multitasking Ability: Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Physical stamina: and the ability to lift heavy objects 25-100+lbs.
  • Candidates: must be 18 years of age or older.
 

Education and Experience:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in lumber inspection is a plus.
